False Eyelashes - How do I remove them?

Makeup and Hair The Makeup Dolls

Violet and I do so many lash applications, so much so that we include them in all of our makeup services, that we forget that not everyone wears them, has worn them before or tried to take them off. Here are some quick removal tips if you find yourself waking up the next morning with a set of faux lashes on your lids and you don't know what to do to get them off.

How to remove false eyelashes

How do you remove false lashes without losing your real lashes? Here are some tips for removing those false lashes:

1. Never remove it by tugging. Chances are, you might pull off some of your real lashes as well, and this can become very tragic! Go gentle on those false eye lashes and handle them as though they could be real.
2. Start by dabbing false eyelash remover on your lash line with a cotton swab. You can gently tap the swab at the base in order to loosen out the eyelash glue. Start applying from the outer edge inwards. You may use some eye makeup remover as an alternative. It would also be good to let it soak for a few seconds in order to soften the adhesive glue. (Do not leave it out too long as it will dry out eventually.)
3. After making sure that it has fully softened, take one corner of the lash band (for full fake eyelashes) and gently pull off the eye lashes. For individual false eye lashes, it is best to use a good pair of tweezers for more precision when pulling.
4. Remove all possible traces of eyelash glue by dabbing some more eyelash remover. Finally, cleanse your eyes and the rest of your makeup with a good make up remover.

Alternatives for Removing False Eye Lashes

Some people find using soap and water to loosen adhesive glue as effective as eyelash removers. Some also soak the area with olive oil or virgin coconut oil to achieve the same glue loosening effect.

Tips for Cleaning and Storing

You can actually reuse your false eye lashes provided that you maintain them and keep them clean at all times. After removing them carefully, soak them in a tiny amount of warm, soapy water to remove the glue, dust particles, as well as false eyelash mascara that you possibly applied. Use tweezers to pull off glue particles. You can also soak them in your eyelash remover solution instead of soapy water. You can use a moustache brush or some other gentle brush for cleaning between those lashes. Afterwards, dry them and store them back in their original container.

Hair Tips and Trends - The Day After Shampoo Hair Styling

Ladies, if you are wondering how to keep your locks looking good without washing daily, I have a few tips for you! When working with one day dirty hair, it is a must to have a Dry Shampoo on hand to refresh your style. Spray your fav Dry Shampoo (or ours, Treseme Dry Shampoo) product at the roots, 10-12 inches away, brush through and fluff your tresses.

Also, try curling some of the strands, that will help to give you a polished, sexy look. We use a 1 inch iron from Hot Tools. That size gives the perfect wave and lasts throughout the day.

Some of our favorite products for dirty hair styling:
Treseme Dry Shampoo
Oribe Dry Texture Spray
Hot Tools 1 Inch Curling Iron

Photo Shoot with Sweet As Honey Boutique

Violet and I recently did a photo shoot with the cutest local boutique in San Mateo called Sweet As Honey Boutique! It is truly a little hidden gem right down the street from our Beauty Studio located on 131 W. 25th Avenue San Mateo.

After beautifying the gorgeous model Kendra at our studio, we headed down to the boutique to do a bit of touch up and take a look around. Why, oh why, must I be 6 months pregnant? There were endless items I would have gladly rushed into the dressing room to try on, maxi dresses perfect for summer, dressy sweatshirts (is that what you call it, I do?) designer denim...I could go on and on. Once my little mister arrives, a shopping spree here will be in order!

We will be at Sweet As Honey Boutique on May 3rd at 6pm to 9pm for their Summer Soiree! There will be snacks, drinks, fabulous new clothes and jewels for summer and us, applying the latest summer makeup looks to go with your new summer wardrobe purchase! Come see us and shop the night away!

Here are a few photos of stunning Kendra from the shoot courtesy of Sweet As Honey Boutique. Photo credit: ASG Imaging.

Makeup Inspirations - What red lip to wear?

I posted this picture on our Facebook Page under our "Makeup and Hair Inspirations via Pinterest" photo album yesterday, I thought a bright red lip would be a great pick me up from the Monday blues! We had a few of you ask for tips on how to choose the right red lipstick. Let's face it red can be intimidating; its bold, bright and it gets you noticed but if its the wrong red for your skin tone, it can leave all of us feeling less that spectacular.

The good news is that everyone can wear red lips it's just a matter of choosing the right undertone. Here are some selection tips based on your coloring:

Reds are divided into two categories, warm and cool. Cool are blue-based shades (think cranberries or red wine) and tend to flatter women with pinker, rosier skin tones.
Warm are orange-based shades (think brick red). These reds look better on women whose skin has golden, peach or tan tones.

Here are some other considerations based on skin tone:
For dark beige and bronze skin: Choose a deep cool red lipstick with a burgundy tone like Nars Viridiana.
For ivory and light beige: Choose a cool, true red. However, if you have a very fair complexion, look for a red with a pink tint to it like Smashbox Legendary.
For pale skin & red hair: Avoid blue reds and choose colors with warm undertones like terracotta reds or deep brick reds which complement skin and hair like Nars Shanghai Express.
Medium skin, mid-brown hair: Avoid tomato reds and choose cool reds such as berry reds or deep raspberry like Too Faced Drop Dead Red.
Fair skin, blonde to brown hair: Avoid terracotta reds if you have mostly pink undertones choose true blue-red lipsticks like Givenchy's Rouge Interdit, limited edition at Sephora.

Hope this answers the age old question of which red to wear. We are always here to answer any and all of your beauty questions so feel free to post on Facebook or email us at info@themakeupdolls.com.
