Introducing.....The Makeup Dolls Beauty Studio

Violet and I opened our Beauty Studio this past March and we have been so busy, we haven't had time to take any photos until this month. Our lovely client Kimberly of Tatum Brooke Photography, who's wedding is next week, took these fabulous images for us and we couldn't be happier! I think the photos really show the space for what it is, clean, bright, inviting and intimate. It is the perfect location for bridal trials, occasion makeup and makeup lessons. Let me know what you think...

Client Reviews - Thank you Liz!

I can't say how much a great review of our services means to Violet and I! Being a part of a brides wedding day is such an honor and when we are lucky enough to hear that we made them feel great on their day, it really does make us smile and beam with pride. Here is a recent review from Liz on www.weddingwire.com:

Thank you Liz for taking the time to post such a sweet review. Funny enough we had the same wedding DJ, http://www.djjeremyproductions.com/, he is absurdly good! You have great taste in makeup and hair artists, DJ's and husbands, of course! :)

Red Carpet Beauty Review - Emmy Awards 2011

I don't think I have ever posted a negative beauty review on here before but these looks are just so bad, too bad in fact, not be mentioned.

Bad choice: Paz de la Huerta wore unflattering make up and had a disheveled hairdo on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles
Paz de la Huerta? Wow, the picture speaks for its self really, doesn't it? Makeup and hair, all bad.

Nancy O'Dell - This hair was all sorts of yikes! The front appeared worse on tv, very cockateel-esque. It really looks like something I did in the bathroom mirror in 8th grade and I was doing some really questionable hair back then...see below? That's me at my 8th grade graduation below. Sorry mom! Ha ha ha!

Hair for the girl on the go...travel tips and tricks

Indiana covered her makeup must have's in the previous blog post so I thought I would share with you my hair must have's for the girl on the go, you and me!

I just recently traveled to Las Vegas for just one night of fun (yes, I know crazy right!). I wanted to look my best at the pool during the day and for a night on the town, all in one small carry one bag.  That's when its time to use my go to essentials:

Vavoom Shapemaker Hairspray is my absolute fav spray for styling and keeping my hair looking good all night long! It holds extremely well and it comes in a mini if you are only taking a carry-on.

To amp up your style and to absorb oil and refresh you locks, I always recommend Treseme Dry Shampoo. For under $4, this spray will give you volume, refresh your style and take away any unwanted smell on your hair from those smoky clubs!

Moisturized hair is a must especially in Vegas and Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Treatment is the best at locking in and sealing moisture and adding shine to dry ends. I apply it to damp hair then dry or add some before I curl and style for the night out.

Don't forget a few hair ties and a maybe some bobby pins to create a sexy braid for the pool or the plane ride home!

Makeup for the girl on the go....Travel tips and tricks

I (luckily) don't have to travel too often for work. Though I enjoy flying to new, exciting (and not so exciting) destinations, I am a self confessed homebody. It's easy to see why I want to stay home when you lay your eyes on my sweet, sweet baby love Ellie.
See...it's pretty hard to leave that loveliness for too long. When on the road, I like my makeup bag to be super streamlined, stocked with the absolute basics so it's really easy to put together a day time look at my 6 am wakeup call and to freshen up for a dinner out. The key to ease is thoughtfully chosen pieces that work well together and of course do double duty. Here's whats in my makeup bag on my way back from Minnesota...

Face:
I love a medium coverage foundation, one that is light enough and professional for the day but has enough coverage for night. My favorite right now is Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. The coverage is buildable and can be applied with your fingertips...no brush, no sponge...great! Don't skimp on bringing along your concealer..it's necessary.

Eyes, Cheeks and Lips:
Pallets and more pallets! I love travelling with set that have everything in one. Though I have plenty of custom MAC pallets and individual shadows to choose from, when I travel, I want things to be easy and simple. I also pack one light and one medium/darker gloss with a liner. I can achieve three different looks from those three lip products. For pallets, try these:

Urban Decay - Shadows and liners...day to night perfection!

Chanel - Eyes, Cheeks and Lips...everything in one!

Brush Set:
A travel brush set is a must. Brushes are so bulky, they really do take up a lot of room so invest in a nice travel set. It's perfect for the gym too!

Sigma - Affordable quality.

Bobbi Brown -  The mother of all brush sets ;) Impeccable quality!
Basic Brush Collection
Violet will be posting this week with tip on Hair for the girl on the go so stay tuned! We would love to hear your favorite "to go" products...leave us a comment and tell us your favorites!

Personal - Glued to the Television...Mildred Pierce!

I have been watching the HBO mini series "Mildred Pierce" that Kate Winslet was promoting in those fabulous outfits in our previous post below and am addicted! It is so well written and Kate is masterful in her role. If you aren't watching it, you should be! It is currently On Demand.

Did you see how amazing Evan Rachael Wood looked at the Zieglfield Theater premiere back in March? A deep berry lip and thick, black cat eye liner is always in style!
